have the right to remain positive.jpg

Did you realize that we all awaken everyday and believe that we are right about everything we think? What I mean by this is that every moment, as soon as we wake, our minds start weaving together messages and beliefs (often at the unconscious level) that allow us to make choices and work in the world.

That doesn’t mean that we are right in everything we think it is just important to know that our lizard brains are going to some length all day long to prove to us how right we are.

An inadvertent and little-talked-about side effect of this desire to always be right is that when we are right, it implies that others are wrong. This right and wrong thing is perilous for so many reasons not the least of which is that it causes a great deal of judgment. It is so easy (in fact, natural) to see the wrong in others.  No one need be taught this.

Instead, many of us could use a lesson in what scientists call "Unconditional Positive Regard" (UPR).  Learning the skill of looking for what is good and coupling that with the skill of recognizing when you only want to see the bad in something or someone could be one of the greatest skills you could ever acquire.

Practice seeing the good, catch yourself seeing the bad.  It is not nearly as easy as you may think, but the practicing alone could change your life.

Cheers to the stilling of the Lizard!
